An espresso puck screen is a thin stainless steel mesh disc that sits on top of your tamped coffee puck. When you lock in the portafilter, water hits the screen first and spreads evenly across the puck — instead of jetting through one spot and causing channeling. It also keeps coffee oils and fine grounds off your machine's shower screen, so cleanup is a quick rinse instead of a scrub.

How to use it

1. Dose, distribute, and tamp your coffee as usual.
2. Place the puck screen flat on top of the tamped puck.
3. Lock in the portafilter and pull your shot. Rinse the screen after each use.

One tip: the screen takes up a little headspace. If your basket is dosed right to the top, reduce the dose by about 0.5g so the portafilter still locks in comfortably.
