58mm Portafilter Accessories

Explore tampers, distribution tools and puck-preparation accessories for 58mm basket setups. Select the correct variant on each product page and match it to the basket you use.

For Breville Barista Express BES870 owners: Breville specifies a 54mm portafilter for this machine. Do not choose a 58mm accessory for its original basket. Start with our tamper size guide and check the individual product's fit details.

58mm vs 58.5mm: Check Your Basket

A basket's nominal size and a tamper's base diameter are different measurements. A 58.5mm tamper is not automatically suitable for every basket described as 58mm. Use the basket manufacturer's recommendation and the selected accessory's measured dimensions, particularly with aftermarket baskets.

Build Your Puck-Preparation Routine

  • WDT: Stir loose grounds before tamping to break up clumps and redistribute the coffee.
  • Distribution tool: Level the surface before tamping. Check the tool's diameter and depth requirements.
  • Tamper: Compress the prepared coffee bed with a base that fits your basket.
  • Puck screen: An optional accessory placed above the coffee puck. Check both diameter and available headspace.

Check Compatibility Before Ordering

Use your exact machine model, current basket and selected product variant when comparing accessories. A collection name alone does not establish compatibility. If you have replaced the original basket, follow the replacement basket's specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these accessories with a Barista Express?

The Barista Express BES870 uses a 54mm portafilter. A 58mm accessory is not the correct choice for its original basket. Check the individual listing for an appropriate option and verified fit information.

Do I need a distributor as well as a tamper?

They perform different jobs: a distributor levels the surface, while a tamper compresses the grounds. Choose additions based on your current routine and equipment; you do not need to buy every type of tool.

Will new tools fix sour or bitter espresso?

Tools are one part of preparation. Coffee, grind setting, dose, yield and brewing conditions also affect the result. A tool purchase does not guarantee a particular flavour.
